Near Dreher Island on Sunday afternoon a young man dove from a wooden boat flying a campaign flag for President Donald Trump. As the flag flapped in the South Carolina breeze, revealing the updated 2020 slogan, “KEEP AMERICA GREAT,” his entry was clean — and splash minimal.

In the cove there, more than a thousand vessels, most adorned with flags supporting the president, gathered where skydivers descended to the ground and an air horn kicked off the Lake Murray Trump Boat Parade. They steamed to the east where a twenty mile route led participants to the dam and then to Suzie Elbert Island near Liberty Tap Room and Rusty Anchor & Catfish Johnny’s.

Organizer Jason Cline plans to release crowd size estimates on Monday. “We are having a computer analysis currently that combines satellite, drone and aerial photography to nail down the exact number! I can promise you that we made history and more than likely not only broke the world record but shattered it!!!” he announced in the Facebook event group.

***Update: Organizer Jason Cline reported more than 3400 boats with an estimated 30753 people in attendance.
